Lisa Götze / Gruppe CIS

Endlich unsterblich!

With “Endlich unsterblich!”, Kunstverein Friedrichshafen presents an exhibition by Lisa Götze / Gruppe CIS that places the human body at its thematic center. The title of the exhibition alludes to the interplay between moments of youthful feelings of infinity and the awareness of physical mortality.

Lisa Götze’s paintings, drawings, and light installations are marked by technical virtuosity and a keen sense of observation. Her works often radiate a melancholic gravity that recalls the transience of human existence. The film works of Gruppe CIS are characterized by a rich, innovative visual language that draws on elements from theater, film history, and pop culture. While Götze explores themes of death and impermanence, Gruppe CIS contrasts this with a focus on sexuality, gender issues, and youthful body ideals.

Particularly striking are the expansive 10-channel video installation “locked-in” (2016) by Gruppe CIS and Götze’s glass installation “Oh, Jesus…”, which together make the exhibition an extraordinary, visually powerful experience. The combination of these artistic positions results in a charged rendezvous between the death drive and the joy of life, as well as between static and moving images.
