Iris Häusler

»Xenotope« und »Verlorene Blicke«

A night in a room furnished like a hotel room, but which is not a hotel room, but rather an exhibition space. A night in a room with another bed and another “guest”, who is not actually present, however, because they are fictional. A night in a room that offers direct engagement with art, with an imagined counterpart and with oneself. This is possible at the Kunstverein Friedrichshafen, which can be used as a place to sleep and an experiential space for one night, furnished and decorated with works of art by Munich-based artist Iris Häussler.

Iris Häussler’s theme is biographies. In her work, she explores the question of how biographies come into being and shows how they are imposed on a person like a second skin. In various spatial situations, preferably outside art institutions – in hotel rooms or empty apartments – she constructs the history and stories of fictional characters. Using collected objects and photos, she creates ‘synthetic memories’.
